In Loving Memory of
Daniel W. Donahue Jr.
February 4, 1942 - Dec. 31, 2002
Dan Donahue will be remembered as the co-founder, inspiration and guiding force of Donahue Schriber. His sense of creativity, compassion and fun were truly remarkable.
In order to get a full sense of the man, it's important to appreciate what he did - and value how he did it.
A native of Los Angeles, a graduate of San Jose State University and an experienced real estate broker, Mr. Donahue, along with partner Tom Schriber, founded the firm that would become Donahue Schriber. Upon that foundation, the pair worked tirelessly to build the Southern California-based, Western-states-focused retail enterprise into an acknowledged leader in the development, management and leasing of neighborhood, community and regional shopping centers.
Recognized for the innovative retail strategies his company originated - including visionary development and redevelopment projects such as Glendale Galleria (Glendale, CA), Fashion Island (Newport Beach, CA) and The Market Place, formerly Tustin Market Place, (Tustin, CA) -- Mr. Donahue was tapped in 1981 to serve as a trustee and chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers, representing over 44,000 industry professionals worldwide.
A lifelong contributor to charitable causes, his kind-hearted efforts in support of the Catalina Conservancy, Hoag Hospital Foundation, the Orange County Rescue Mission's House of Hope, Notre Dame High School, and KidWorks, an after-school program for at-risk children in Santa Ana, CA, among others, earned him a solid reputation as a socially-concerned, community-minded businessman.
Love of Fun
Known throughout the industry as a featured player in Donahue Schriber trade advertising (which depicted him riding a bucking bronco, walking in outer space, even flying through the air like a superhero), Mr. Donahue had a wonderful, childlike love of fun.
We will carry the memories of him forever, for he was, to the many who loved him, larger than life.
We fondly remember him as we boldly move forward.
